Simposium Geographical Indications

The International Simposium on Geographical Indications, which will take place in Lima on the 11th and 12th of January 2006, has the objective of presenting and promoting the use and protection of the Geographical Indications as a development tool for products that have specific characteristics, which distinguish them from other products of their kind.

As an answer to the dynamic of globalization, consumers in the different markets are looking for products with an aggregated value, which is an opportunity for the development of our products in the international markets.

In the world there are many successful experiences of products protected by Geographical Indications that are commercialised on the international market. In the Simposium, the invited speakers will chare these experiences and they will give importance to the benefits, difficulties, opportunities and implications of having a protected Geographical Indication. They will also explain the actual situation of protection of the Geographical Indications on an international level.

The Simposium is addressed to the producers and representatives of public and private institutions, interested in the development of the Geographical Indications in the member countries of the Andean Community as well as other countries in Latin America.
